The „Project for the Development of Rehabilitation Programme Through Art Activities for Children in Prisons” is led by Sosyal Hizmet Uzmanları Derneği (SHUDER) – Association of Social Workers and co-led by Centrul pentru Promovarea Invatarii Permanente, being funded under the Support of Civil Society Dialogue Between EU and Turkey Grant Scheme (CSD-VI).

This project aims to decrease the ratio of recidivation (put into prison again) of children after releasing from prisons through a new rehabilitation programme in prisons. This project aims to contribute as a solution to one of the most important problems in children’s prisons. This project was designed to decrease the ratio of recidivation (put into prison again) of children after releasing from prisons through a new prison rehabilitation programme. The main goal of this project is to develop an alternative rehabilitation programme with art for children in prisons.

  • The first target group: prisoner children in İzmir Child and Youth Prison and Urla Open Prison for Girl Adolescents and staff in these prisons.
  • Other target group: the staff in two pilot prisons working with children.
  • Final beneficiaries: families of children, staff and children in other prisons.

 

Implementation Activities

Project activities were implemented as follows:

  • Work Package 1: Development of rehabilitation programme

-The main aims of this work packages: To develop an alternative rehabilitation programme with art activities for child prisons and to make pilot implementations of this rehabilitation programme. Activities in this work package will serve to 2nd specific objective of the project “To give contribution decreasing the ratio children getting involved in crime after releasing from prisons” and 3rd specific objective “To develop an alternative treatment/training programme to implement in child prisons and child open prisons in Turkey”.

A1.2: Workshop with staff in pilot prisons to develop context and methodology of rehabilitation programme

A1.3: Training of Trainers for Staff in Prisons

A1.4: 2 Pilot Implementations in 2 Pilot Prisons by Staff in Prisons

A1.5: Evaluation Workshop to Finalize Rehabilitation Programme

  • Work package 2: Analyzing Best Practices and Development Sustainable Partnership Among Partners

-The aim of the work package: To analyse child justice system in Romania and to develop sustainable partnership among project partners

A.2.1: Study Visit to Romania to enable SHUDER representatives and staff in prisons to observe practices in child justice system in Romania

  • Work Package 3: Academic Research

-Aim of the activity: Analysis of the effectiveness of the rehabilitation programme and comparative analysis of Turkey, Romania and other EU countries in the field of child justice system

A 3.2 Closing Event in İzmir

A 3.3: Short Movie of the Rehabilitation Programme

Aim of the activity: To disseminate the project results and rehabilitation programme to other child prisons in Turkey.

Overall, this project is a unique and innovative project that focuses on developing an alternative rehabilitation programme with artistic activities to have a positive impact on children and staff in prisons.
