Reshaping correctional competencies through RESCALED innovation: for current and future workforce adaptation based on profiles of competencies, recognition of prior learning and micro-credentials
The RESIZE: Reshaping Correctional Competencies through RESCALED Innovation project is all about transforming how correctional systems operate across Europe. At its core, this initiative focuses on adapting and enhancing the skills of professionals working in correctional facilities, with a special emphasis on aligning these changes with the RESCALED initiative. RESCALED advocates for small-scale, community-integrated detention houses, which are designed to better serve both the individuals in the justice system and the communities they belong to.
The primary goal of the RESIZE project is to establish a new framework for correctional systems that not only addresses the current needs of the workforce but also prepares them for the future. This involves creating a supportive environment (or ecosystem) where quality training programs are developed and implemented. These programs are designed to help correctional professionals acquire the skills they need to thrive in a changing landscape.
The project is dedicated to creating a European Qualification Map and Correctional Core Competencies Curricula. This is essentially a standardized guide for training programs that will be used across Europe, ensuring that correctional professionals everywhere receive the same high level of education and training. These curricula will then be delivered through specialized tracks within Centers of Vocational Excellence (CoVEs), ensuring that the training is not only comprehensive but also tailored to the specific needs of the correctional workforce. One of the most important aspects of the RESIZE project is its focus on the long-term. The Long-Term Action Plan is dedicated to making sure that the progress made during the project is sustainable. This includes the creation of Regional Pacts for Skills, which are agreements between various stakeholders to continue supporting workforce development. Additionally, the project will establish a European Correctional Competencies Observatory, a Micro-credentialing Catalogue, and propose policies for Recognition, Validation, and Accreditation (RVA). These elements are all aimed at ensuring that the new training and competency frameworks are recognized and valued across Europe.
In summary, the RESIZE project is a forward-thinking initiative that aims to reshape the correctional workforce by providing them with the skills and training needed to succeed in modern, community-integrated correctional environments!
